We're postponing the authorization requirement for *71271 for BCN members

We're postponing the authorization requirement for procedure code *71271 for BCN commercial and BCN Advantage^SM members.

This means that the services associated with code *71271 won't require authorization from AIM Specialty Health^® for BCN commercial and BCN Advantage members until further notice.

Background

We communicated in December 2021 that the services associated with this code would require prior authorization through AIM Specialty Health for all members starting March 1, 2022. That included BCN commercial and BCN Advantage members.

However, due to technical difficulties, AIM's systems haven't yet been adjusted to accept authorization requests for this code for BCN members.

Once we determine a new start date for this requirement for BCN members, we'll:

• Communicate the new date through a web-DENIS message and a news item on our ereferrals.bcbsm.com website
• Update the document titled Procedures that require prior authorization by AIM Specialty Health (PDF) to reflect this change
